Christmas in Cali

We spent this week before Christmas in California with my family. It was a lot of fun and we loved spending time with my mom and Emily & Dan and our little neice, Maddie. Sam also enjoyed it and it was so cute to watch him and Maddie playing together. They were little buds.

During the week, we ate at some yummy restaurants, played lots of games (including introducing Em & Dan to Acquire and the new "24" game), opened Christmas presents, went to the Aquarium of Long Beach, and the guys and mom played golf with Jeff. We also visited some friends in Riverside and had a fun family dinner at Jeff & Penny's house. Despite the weird scheduling of naps (Jared was found sleeping bracing himself against a chair and even while rock music was blaring at Jeff & Penny's while everyone played Guitar Hero), we still had a blast!

Em and I even ventured to make Swiss bread, called zopft. Here are some pictures. Em is a really good cook and even though she says she's not a "baker," I think this bread turned out beautiful! Way to go Em!

Unfortunately, on our drive home, Sam got sick and threw up half way through and got a high temperature too. We're still battling the fever but it is amazing how active he still is with 104 temp. He still wants to shoot basketballs in his new hoop that Auntie Em and Uncle Dan gave him. Thanks guys!

Jan that is horrible about getting sick, but it really is amazing how active kids are still! Your bread turned out awesome. Em is a baker.

Hey Jan...sorry I haven't been keeping up with the blog, but you're so good at telling stories with pictures.

By the way...thanks for not mentioning how much the bread weighed after coming out of the oven...
